Professor Arthur Bennett
Head of House speech, continued

Arthur stood by the fireplace as the Draco first-years filed in after him. Rather than jump into the rest of his speech, he gave the students a moment to take everything in. The common room walls were a deep red, the House’s official color, and featured a painted image of a dragon that occasionally winked and flapped its wings. The painting was something Arthur had added to the room over the summer, in addition to the large flutterby bushes that dominated two corners of the room. The honking daffodils Arthur had gifted the House the year before had been removed halfway through the previous term after several noise complaints. The room was filled with long tables and a mixture of standard chairs and couches, perfect for studying in groups or alone. In the far back, an open archway led to rows of bookshelves—the Dracos’ personal library.

“Welcome home, everyone!” Arthur said. “You’ll be spending a lot of your time here over the next few years. Your dorm rooms are here, this common room is your space, and you even have access to your own library for work. Now there are just a few more rules to cover, so bear with me. As first-years you are not allowed to go up to Pearl Street unless you are with a Staff member. Curfew is at ten o’clock.”

Arthur walked over to the hallways that led to the dorm rooms, stopping momentarily to quickly prune the quivering flutterby bush next to him. “You’ll find your bags waiting in your rooms. The girls’ dorm is on the right, boys’ are on the left. If you end up in the wrong dorm you’ll find yourself automatically transported to the headmaster’s office, so make sure you know your directions. I’m sure you’re all tired after the Opening Feast, so I’ll let you unpack, but know that my door is always open if you need anything!"
