Danny didn't object to Holland’s sleepover scenario. He didn't think he'd be great company, but he was already feeling loads better since Holland arrived, so maybe having Emmett there would help, too. The concept of food was very appealing. Even though he'd spent all day doing nothing, toast and fruit many hours ago was apparently not sufficient to sustain him.

In Holland’s absence, Danny changed from his jeans into some more comfortable cotton pants, put away his textbook, and washed his face to feel refreshed. He seriously considered the cheering charm, but ultimately decided against it, hoping food and good company would do the trick.

Emmett didn't take long to return with pizza and ice cream. Danny grinned; Emmett wasn't the keenest pup in the pet shop but he was a good friend. Pizza wasn't a food in which Danny indulged with much regularity, but he had to agree it was the perfect choice for the moment. Emmett had been considerate enough to select one with lots of vegetables, so Danny tucked in, pausing after his first slice just long enough to thank Holland for their excellent idea.

Apparently Holland was not through with ideas just yet. Their determination to put make up on Danny seemed to have increased every year of their friendship, but never before had Holland literally sat in his room with their make up and made the suggestion. Danny was hesitant; Holland looked good in make up, there was no doubt about that, but the times Emmett wore it Danny thought he looked… unsettling. It's wasn't a secret that Danny sometimes got manicures - not least because it was often Holland who did them - so he didn't think he was concerned by something as trivial as gender norms, but more that having products on his face weirded him out, as did the concept of not looking like himself. But then Emmett said ‘Sure’ and Danny didn't have the energy to argue. Besides, painting Emmett’s face to look like the portrait of Wendelin the Weird did hold a certain appeal. “Whatever,” Danny sighed, but with a hint of smile. At least this would serve as a good distraction.

With Holland's permission, Danny started looking at the various bottles, boxes, tubes and tubs filled with contents he did not recognize. Some of them were labelled but many weren't. “I might need some direction,” he laughed, lifting out one container that claimed to be primer, one that described itself as a base, and a couple that looked like what he'd perhaps maybe identify as something called foundation. “These all seem to serve the same function,” he added, entirely nonplussed. Danny looked at Holland with an expression that conveyed both that he was impressed that Holland had so much knowledge about this topic that was completely obscure to him, and also that Holland was perhaps slightly insane to bother with covering their face in so many products every single day.

He was hoping to just start randomly smearing bright colors onto Emmett’s face but it was like looking at a range of unfamiliar potions and not knowing which were prone to reacting in a way hazardous to one’s health. What even was lip liner anyway? It soon became apparent, however, that Holland wasn’t going to help. Taking up a sponge, Danny squeezed a little flesh-colored liquid stuff onto it and poked Emmett more firmly than he meant to in the cheek. “Oops,” he laughed. “Okay hold still Emmett, you’ll need both eyes to see how terrible this is and if you move too much I am going to unintentionally blind you,” Danny grinned as he smeared the liquid (that seemed to turn into a powder on contact with skin - was that magic or did Muggle cosmetics do that, too?) over Emmett’s face. It was a shade too dark for him, as it turned out. “You’ve got a great tan, Emmett.” This was already much more enjoyable than it had any right to be, Danny thought as he tried to make sure his friend’s face was the same shade all over. He left the lips and eyebrows clear because he wasn’t sure what to do with them.

Discarding the used sponge onto one the leftover napkins (he wasn’t sure what to do with that, either), Danny surveyed the products again. “Holland I have a whole new appreciation for the way you look amazing everyday,” he said, plucking out a thick green pencil. “Emmett I swear to Merlin, if you move right now you will lose an eye.”
