Holland
Something like that

Here was another weird thing about the transfers: they sort of corresponded with students who were already there. Russell was like Emmett but really weird. Ruben was like a male, Swedish version of Rose. Maverick was like if Holland presented more masculinely and was more misanthropic. That left Kaye, who didn’t quite match with either Danny or Marissa, and now Myfanwy, who Holland didn’t know well enough to compare to their friends yet. They were pretty sure that Danny thought they were crazy and Emmett was just humoring them (he wasn’t the Mulder-est agent in the FBI but he was a good sport), and those were the only people who they had mentioned this transfer thing to, but Holland still thought the analogues were super weird independent of the existing weirdness of there being so many transfers, which, again, was weird.

“I’d love to help with hair stuff if you want,” Holland said, not disingenuously. Although hopefully Myffi wouldn’t want to do eyebrows too. Holland rarely bothered with dying their eyebrows, leaving them their natural brown instead. It was simple if you were using transfiguration, but applying Muggle dye or potions to eyebrows was never worth the effort.

The enjoyment of fun fashion things won out over the suspicion of transfers. Also, Holland justified, spending more time with Myffi would give them more information. Just in case there was anything interesting to learn. Holland was willing to consider the possibility that they were wrong and the influx of transfers was just a question of weird timing, but they would need evidence to suggest that, and they weren’t yet satisfied that it was a coincidence. Holland was not given to accept that things were just coincidences.

“My entire family moved across the ocean to live in a Muggle commune” was not a promising lead for a Dubois or Kendrick comparison, though. “Here you are,” Holland repeated, still processing that information a bit. It sounded a little bit hippie and a little bit like survivalism. Commune? Or cult? “So what’s it like living on a commune?” they asked, equally curious and suspicious.
