That’s my cue

Even though this was one of the first things they had done in Arithmancy, Professor Wilson wanted everyone to show their work on their personal numbers. So Holland had calculated their character, heart, and social numbers (seven, four, and three) by hand. According to their textbook, sevens were perceptive, understanding, bright, enjoyed challenges, and were interested in all things mysterious. It was hard to judge your own personality, but Holland felt like that was an accurate description of them. So now they needed to use their character number and the character number of a person close to them to write an essay about how their numbers were expressed in their interactions.

They were still trying to decide who to write about—whether they should pick someone with the same character number as them (Armaan, Maverick) or a friend who was closer to them who had a different number. If anyone asked, Holland was working on their homework in the Common Room because they liked the fire being nearby. They were definitely not waiting up for Danny and/or Rachel to get back from their date.

After everything that had happened last semester (and last year), Holland was glad Danny seemed to be moving on. (Although they were slightly annoyed that they’d found out about it from Rachel, not Danny.) No matter how much Danny and Marissa liked each other, they couldn’t seem to make it work, and every time they tried they ended up hurting each other. Specifically, Danny ended up hurting Marissa. Holland thought Marissa wasn’t exactly thrilled about Danny and Rachel dating. The redhead had said that she was “fine,” but Holland would only believe that in the sense of the sarcastic acronym.

Holland had decided to write the paper about their mother and was working on a description of the four character when Rachel got back. She waved to Holland on her way to her dorm. Rachel wasn’t really one to gossip, but she seemed cheerful, at least. Danny entered the Common Room shortly after that, but instead of going for his dorm he went toward their sofa by the window. Holland quickly moved their books off the cushion beside them so Danny could sit.

“Hey Danny,” Holland said, glancing up from their book. He’d come in whistling and seemed like he was in high spirits, so that confirmed what Holland had guessed from Rachel’s demeanor. “Sounds like your date went well.”

        • Phrasing! - Holland Keene, Mon Sep 25 16:01
Danny looked cocky and pleased with himself. Which, granted, wasn’t unusual for him, but since it was immediately after the date Holland could guess why. Technically this was the first time Danny had ... more

Caught out, Holland couldn’t help smiling and blushing a bit. “Maybe,” they offered with a shrug. It was more that they’d wanted to talk to Danny without Emmett, and since Emmett was usually in bed... more

Dardanius sniggered when Holland mentioned their own dating habits. In their defense, that blind date party had a lot to answer for. He really didn't want to think about Ruben in any capacity -... more

To Holland’s surprise, Danny picked up the thread of suspicion when Holland had been willing to drop it. That was a reversal. And his first move was to suggest Rose had instigated the relationship.... more

Holland seemed to mull over Danny’s input, which just made him feel bad for saying anything in the first place. Rose and Emmett weren't hurting anyone, probably - least of all each other, for the... more

Danny got defensive, which meant that Holland was probably right on the mark but he didn’t want them to be. Well, all right. Holland supposed that if they were dating someone they were moderately... more
