I hate literally everything that's happening right now

Sniffling, Darlene curled up in the green armchair and accepted the box of tissues handed her way. She couldn't believe that she was reduced to this. Her! Darlene Knight! Crying in a teacher’s office!

It was all stupid Kit’s fault. Of course, she couldn't say that exact phrasing out loud, because adults didn't like it when you called other people stupid, and Mr. Tennant definitely wouldn't, both because it was his job as counselor to teach better ways to disagree peacefully or some junk, not to mention the fact that Kit was his granddaughter. But when he asked what happened, Darlene swallowed and tried to do her best. “I just came into my room, and she had our beds pushed together, and this weird hairy spider was in my sheets,” she whimpered. “I really don't like spiders.”

And then soon enough Kit was here. Darlene wasn't ready to look at her, but she supposed she should just count her blessings that Kit hadn't brought “Darby” along for the trip. And immediately, Kit was in tears. Ugh. That was so immature! And so manipulative! Kit had to know that crying would help her chances of getting what she wanted - perhaps she wasn't entirely stupid after all - but Darlene wasn't to be outdone, so she went back to crying, too.

“I don't want to be friends with a spider!” She cried, completely ignoring Kit’s assertions. Whether a tarantula was technically a spider didn't matter, it was still a gross, eight-legged creepy crawly that had been all over Darlene’s bed, the place where she was meant to feel the safest and most relaxed. “How will I ever sleep knowing that thing was in my sheets?!”
