You might contact Doug Klink with the Reliance Fire Co. Museum (http://reliancefiremuseum.org). They are located in Colorado, but they own/restored the steamer currently on exhibit in the Kansas City venue of “The Horse” exhibition.a
With that said, there are a fair number of steam fire engines in California. I don’t know them all, but You should start with the CSFA Steamer Team (http://www.csfa.net/csfa/calff/about_csfa/csfa_steamer/steamer_history.aspx). Dave Hubert is the lead and owns/restored — and operates — an ex-Reno Steam Fire Engine. Even if not displayed in the exhibit, a live-demonstration of this engine would make a wonderful one-day “special event.” Contact David Hubert vie his website: http://hubiepictures.com

Don't completely rule Doug Kink (Colorado) out. The advantage of working with him is he owns his own low-boy trailer and transports a lot of vintage fire apparatus for his restoration company so he... more
