These may seem like obvious questions, but is it reasonable to say that Alfred Jansson would translate to Alfred Johnson?

On the 1900 U.S. Census, my Alfred Johnson's year of emigration is listed as 1888, not 1886. This is confirmed in the same census by 12 being listed as the number of years in the U.S.

So, if Alfred Jansson is my Alfred Johnson, where was he for the two year difference?
Is there some way that you know of to locate passage from Sweden to the U.S. for Alfred?
Maybe he did not come directly to the U.S. - but went somewhere else first when he left Varmland. Is there a source I can check?

Also, Is there anything about the parents of Alfred and Ida listed anywhere in the resources you have? What would you consider the best source for finding this information?

Many thanks!! Mary Ellen As you can tell, I am new to this!!

There is an Alfred Jansson born 6 Jun 1866 in Väse, Värmland (page 236 for the year 1886 - the year he emmigrated to the US). Would you like more help or can you handle it from here?
