No one invloled in the Trust thinks that youth development is not vitally important to the future of clubs our size. Equally, however, is the CofE costs around 300K to run, we'd have to be producing 5 'premier league' prospects every year to make it pay for itself. This simply isn't going to happen.
The PL clubs will do whatever is in their best interests. They'll happily change whatever rules they need to if they feel the need to set up their own CofEs in High Wycombe or Yeovil. Football League clubs will let them.
The message that this closure has sent is pretty obviously, 'things are bad, we eed to take drastic measures.' That's a million miles away from suggesting that Wycombe Wanderers isn't interested in youth development...
If the PL is happy for many academies to fail they lose their newly acquired 'satellites' for finding elite prospects. It is not in their interests for lots of Academies to close - so they won't. You ... more
