Redknapp's style of football would have left us exposed at the back, whereas Hodgson recognises that the defence (which has always been a strength for England anyway) has to be the platform to build on against technically superior sides (one of which we face next in the quarters) with France being a good example.
IMO it's this approach which has led us to surpass all expectations, as well as the lack of comparable media hysteria befote/during previous major tournaments. Although it must be said that expectation will probably now rise.
