To score goals, you need at the very least to hit the target. Yesterday England had 1 shot on target, out of 11 across the whole tournament. Italy had 9 shots on target, out of a total of 26 in the tournament (avge 6.5 shots on target per game).

It would be churlish to point out that in our penalty shoot out we only managed a further three shots on target to the Italians four (granted they also took five penalties).
