The "GCSE" reference is that Hitler/Nazis usually comes up on the syllabus there, rather than it being any comment on the "level" of historical knowledge.

It's a warning from history, that casual racism, and nationalism can be hijacked into something a lot more sinister.
There was other "cleansing" of "undesirables" but the racial element was the most significant aspect.

Massive wiping out of one race is clearly one end of the racism scale, and accepting racial slurs is clearly the other end. But getting into a position where that becomes acceptable or not worthy of conviction is clearly a step to a more serious level.

I get the distinct feeling you're a Nick Griffin fan...
