Birmingham defender returns to Adams Park

Thursday 30th August 2017

Wanderers continued their foray into the loan market with the arrival of Birmingham City defender Dan Scarr in a deal running until 1st January 2018. Scarr should be familiar to Wanderers’ fans having scored for former Club Stourbridge in the 3rd Round FA Cup tie at Adams Park in January 2017.

His goal at Adams Park bought him the attention that finally persuaded City to take the then 23 year old a two and half year deal.

Scarr originally joined Stourbridge from Redditch United in June 2015, having previously progressed through the youth ranks of Worcester City. He made 84 appearances for Stourbridge, scoring 11 goals before his dream move to his childhood supported side on 23rd January 2017.

Before his loan move to Wanderers he had yet to break into First Team football with Birmingham City after suffering an injury set-back while playing for their U23 side.

Scarr has been allocated No.28 in the Wanderers squad. It’s unknown at this stage whether he will be allowed to play in FA Cup ties with Wanderers.

Commenting on the deal, Gareth Ainsworth said:

“Dan came to our attention when we were preparing for the game against Stourbridge and I thought he was outstanding against us in that match.

“We were one of a number of clubs keeping an eye on him but he deserved his move to Birmingham and he will have learned a lot from being in a Championship environment in the past six months.

“Now we’re pleased to bring him in on loan and are looking forward to giving him the chance to compete for a place in our backline. We’ve been conceding too many goals and we believe Dan will strengthen our options, and also provide a threat from set pieces at the other end.

“He’s a big lad with a lot of ability and a fantastic appetite to succeed as a professional footballer, and that kind of character will see him fit perfectly into our squad.”
