Gareth Ainsworth

“I’m pleased with the reaction at half-time. I’ve had to dig deep inside myself – the last six games have been quite easy sailing for me at half-time and full-time but today I had to get into the boys.

“They were poor first half, they know they were. The pitch is terrible, I know Exeter won’t mind me saying this because they’ve been complaining as well, it’s a terrible pitch – it cuts up, you can’t play on it at all.

"We tried to in the first half – ironically we get billed as being a bit direct, we tried to play and that wasn’t working at all, we had to go direct. So the more balls we stuck in the box in the second half, the more we went forward, the better results we had.

“We could have won it in the second half, I thought we were the better side in the second half, but Exeter were the better side in the first half.

“With that, it’s a good game, it’s a 1-1, it’s a tough place to come – not many will get a draw here, I think they’ve won more games at home than anyone else in the league, so, after a seven-hour journey last night, it’s quite satisfying.

“We could have nicked it but perhaps that would have been a bit unjust on Exeter.”
