Team Changes

Two changes to the side that had won at Crawley the previous Wednesday

In: Curtis Thompson and Nick Freeman
Out: Luke O'Nien (injured), Matt Bloomfield (dropped to bench)

Michael Harriman returned from injury on the bench - he last played on 30th September 2017 before breaking his leg during training the following week.

Gareth Ainsworth

“Port Vale have done a job on us; they came to get a point and they got it. We looked a bit leggy after playing on Wednesday and seven points in a week isn’t a disaster.”

"They frustrated us but we’ll have to rest the legs and be ready to explode again at Notts County on Friday.

“There are some real positives - a clean sheet, more minutes for Scotty, a first start for Curtis [Thompson]. There were some fine margins and if Macca’s [Mackail-Smith] chance goes in, everyone’s happy.

“Luke [O'Nien] could be ready again on Friday. We missed him today.”

The Wycombe boss added:

“If there was one team that deserved to win today it was Wycombe, but I have to give credit to Neil Aspin and Port Vale.

“They’ve come not to lose – obviously they’ve tried to attack but I thought we defended really well.

“The frustrations of not winning the game have probably clouded what actually happened in the game, we did create chances.

“We looked a little bit leggy, we looked like a team that had played on Wednesday in a big game and I think that fixture has just took its toll on the boys a little bit.

“It’s difficult, as a manager, if you change a winning team too much because of legs and it doesn’t go right you get slaughtered for changing a winning team."
