Team News

Gareth Ainsworth made seven changes to the starting XI that had lost at Doncaster the previous Saturday.

Yves Ma-Kalamby replaced Ryan Allsop in goal. Other changes:Jason McCarthy, Michael Harriman (returning from suspension), Nick Freeman, Dominic Gape, Curtis Thompson and Craig Mackail-Smith
They replaced Joe Jacobson, Bryn Morris, Adebayo Akinfenwa, Sam Saunders, Marcus Bean (all moving to the bench) and Anthony Stewart (presumed rested).
Scott Kashket (returning from injury) was also named on a seven man bench

Northampton included ex-Wanderers Dean Bowditch (played on loan during the 2005/6 season) and Junior Morias in their starting XI.
Morias made 31 apps for Wanderers between 2012 and 2014 before being released by 'mutual consent' in September 2014.
His debut for Wanderers was the Gareth Ainsworth first game in charge - a 3-0 defeat at Dagenham in September 2012.
He was making his Northampton debut versus Wanderers having signed for The Cobblers in July 2018 for an 'undisclosed 6 figure fee'.

Fellow former Wanderer Aaron Pierre was not in The Cobblers team but attended the match at Adams Park.

Reaction:

Gareth Ainsworth

“That was great for the fans. We were well worthy of the victory and created some really good chances.”

“It’s our first League Cup tie win for a few years and we’ve put our Wembley penalty hoodoo to bed!”
