David Wheeler joins on a three-year deal from QPR
Tue Jul 30, 2019 13:40

On the same day that Jason McCarthy departed and Fred Onyedinma joined Wanderers, the Club revealed at around 1pm the signing of QPR attacking right-sided midfielder David Wheeler on a three-year deal. The 28-year-old is best known for a successful four season spell at Exeter City between 2013 and 2017 where he netted 38 goals in 171 appearances in all competitions. Included in that time were two goals in victories over Wycombe (October 2014 and January 2017). He was voted Player of the Season at Exeter for the 2016/17 season.

He moved to QPR in August 2017 on a three-year deal for an ‘undisclosed’ fee but despite scoring on his full debut in September 2017, was unable to hold down a regular First Team spot at Loftus Road and was loaned to both Portsmouth and MK Dons during the 2018/19 season – the latter spell re-uniting him with his former boss at Exeter City, Paul Tisdale. He scored 4 times for MK Dons as they won promotion to ‘League One’.

He was allocated No.7 in the Wanderers squad.
