I have two things that I believe may father, Jim Pettus, traded for at the end of the war: a manual of Japanese fighter tactics (in Japanese, of course) with a notation on the fly leaf which gives his name, APO, and the information 'For this book I traded i each G.I. shirt and pants'. Someone has pencilled underneath 'Slightly irregular, Col!'; and a Japanese officer's sword and scabbard. I think the sword is one othe the mass produced ones issued to officers in the later years of the war. The blade, still sharp, is pitted with rust, and the hilt is wrapped with fabric stained with what could be blood.

Does anyone remember these items? Anyone have any recollection of their background or how or where Col Pettus could have obtained them?

Thanks for any help or information.

Best to you all,
Rachael Pettus
