I had to cheat and look on IMDb.com to see that it was the first episode - "War of the Silver Kings". Directed by Budd Boetticher, it was an excellent start of the series.
Besides introducing Bret Maverick, it also introduced the reoccuring character "Big Mike", played by Leo Gordon. While on IMDb.com I decided to check Gordon's bio. Learned he was a tough guy off the screen as well as on and served time for armed robbery in San Quentin before becoming an actor.
