In my opinion the Earps should of been a little more contrite about taking 3 lives. They should of took the posture of acting remorseful, regretting their actions and saying so. They still had the legal justification to fall back on if they would of made those statements.
I believe the Earps took the posture of their defense counsel, which they had to follow. Behan tricked them, the cowboys were out to get them, they had to do it, etc.
Of course it is hard to act like that when the events preceeding the gunfight had several personal interactions that tainted the professional reasons for going down there.
Wyatt tried to make amends with Ike and was rebuked. I think Wyatt may have realized he might have achieved more support if he would of acted a different way?
