My general belief has been that Billy was anxious to leave and that the intent was to wait at the vacant lot until the McLaurys finished business and then proceed to the West End Corral to get the wagon and leave together.
One of the incalculables is what effect Behan's meeting with the cowboys had. Did it make any real difference in outcome? Did it delay the cowboys?
But I don't think it was the intent of the Clantons to leave the McLaurys.
