However I note it is a position held by few for which no actual evidence is presented that I have been able to find from those who advocate for it
Almost every person who has written about this has implied the cowboys went through the O.K. Corral and out onto Fremont Street. All maps showing a route for the cowboys but the one by Gilchriese, that I can find, show the cowboys going straight through to Fremont Street.
See Billy Allen for instance in Turner as one of many. He says the cowboys walked through the O. K. Corral and then says he walked through the O>K. corral and he ended up on Fremont street. Thus he suggests what he means by through. He mentions nothing about any of the cowboys peeling off from the others or turning behind the businesses to get to Fly's.
Several people have suggested the Billys turned and walked behind the buildings and came in to Fly's area from the south. One of these was John Gilchriese via his map. Yet Mr. Shillinberg, an admirer and close friend of Gilchriese, describes all the cowboys coming all the way through to Fremont street. Why doesn't Mr. Shillingberg follow the lead from Mr. Gilchriese if the evidence is there or mention the Gilchriese alternative if any evidence is there?
If these people are suggesting it is possible the Billys or anyone else took the "back route" who can say they didn't? We could list many other possibilities also. But in order to move from a possibility to a probability, something in the way of evidence would be required. Would it not?
However if advocates for this "back route" produce no evidence to back such possibilities this would seem to be nothing beyond pure speculation with no backing at all? I continue to seek the backup for this idea in vain. What evidence am I missing to support this idea?
From your answer I take it you have no evidence it happened at all but find it probable. Is that fair?
If not, on what actual evidence do you find it probable?
Hi Tom, What evidence is there that the two Billy's came out at the Fremont Street O.K. Corral exit? Who saw them there? Who testified to that? Billy Allen and Reuben Coleman, in a sense, followed... more
I have no strong belief on the matter at all. Tom Gaumer,Tue Apr 24 12:17
