When Ike Clanton heard that Jonas Brighton had warrants for his arrest on the charge of participating in the killing of Isaac Ellinger (a county/territorial warrant), and for tampering with the Apache herd at San Carlos (a Federal warrant), he informed the detective/deputy where he could be found. With a flair for the dramatic, Ike wrote that when Brighton came for him, he “would come through smoke.” I say that was poor judgement on Ike’s part.
