It has never been proven that Wyatt Earp called that fight crooked. He called a low blow and gave the fight to the other guy, and many people claimed that they never saw the low blow. Those claims have kept the “Earp Fixed The Fight” thing going all these years. If he did help fix the fight nobody has ever proven who he was working for nor any payoff.

If, and only IF the fight was fixed, Earp could have benefitted in any of a number of ways, from a direct cash payoff, to a roundabout payoff through some third party or means such as land, valuables, etc. to forgiveness for a gambling debt of his or Josephine’s- Remember, she was a degenerate gambler who in later years would go lose all the household funds for the month, leaving Wyatt to bum meals off the neighbors or go hungry. He may very well have been offered forgiveness for a large debt if he threw the fight to the competitor he was told to help.
