The Earp's left town to support Capt. Hearst and the Cavalry in case a civilian arrest were necessary when some mules were stolen from the cavalry.

I can't remember other ventures to the boarder or elsewhere to investigate cattle theft or smuggling of same by the Earp's but....

It is hard to assess threats from either side. How many are to let off steam and how many really mean violence is imminent or sure? Would the cowboys seriously threaten the Earps in the streets when Mr. Sills is just a few steps away listening or was that blowing off steam?

Do you think Ike might have been serious in walking the streets carrying guns and telling the Earp's they just missed a Coroner's hearing by a second or so? He only got a headache. Had he seen Virgil coming he would likely have been killed. Another example of wearing guns when dealing with armed police might have flaws in it. IKe and the cowboys would do so much better in London where the police are not always armed! LOL
