AHC The Tombstone Vendetta

I was somewhat surprised by Greg's view of what you said in that program.

Here is the quotes I believe Greg is referring to:

"After the gunfight papers around the nation heralded the Earps as heroes. The country rejoiced at what the Earps had done. Then something strange happened, at the Coroner's hearing witness after witness came forward, and these witnesses kept telling the same story. They kept saying the cowboys were surrendering, and had their arms in the air when the Earps came forward, and shot them down."

After that the show goes into more of the acting sequences, and doesn't give any historians statements on the Spicer hearing where the defence witnesses were presented. The coroner's hearing only had prosecution witnesses.

After that the show goes on quickly to the aftermath of the Spicer hearing with Virgil's shooting, Morgan's murder, and the so called vendetta ride.

I obviously don't know what else was said, or edited out, but it seemed to me that in the quote above you were speaking about how the public response to the shooting went from acclaim to questioning after the Coroner's inquest, leading to the preliminary hearing. It was not made clear in the hearing section that the witnesses you mentioned were just prosecution witnesses, or that in the hearing other witnesses gave different versions of the events.

I am familiar with the Spicer hearing so I understood you were only speaking of the Coroner's hearing, not the full hearing. It didn't occur to me when I first viewed the program that others might not understand that. I don't know if it would have been clear to someone unfamiliar with the entire situation.

That is the difficulty IMO with these types of programs.

I do not have a tape of the show, so I am not able to review what was said. Also, it is not possible for you to know what was edited out. This could be a re-cut version of the older show. That... more

Yup! As a wise man of my acquaintance once opined, when he gets to Hell he expects to find that the Devil is actually a full time producer who runs the underworld as a side gig.
