I noticed the Reddit app on my phone would randomly crash when it was over wifi. I wonder if the ad was being injected in the GET web service requests and having all that extra JavaScript garbage in the response was blowing up the app?

It looks like it stopped for now. My friend already switched to Verizon because of it. Still on the fence myself if I should switch.

    I've seen Comcast inject content into non-https sites before (something like, "Hey you should upgrade your modem") but never an advertisement.
