Dal with stones, but I'm confused

Hi all --

We have a 3-year-old Dal and I'm confused a bit by pH and stone type. Just wondering if someone can help point me in the right direction.

In June, we boarded Kip at a Doggie Daycare for two days. Before, we've always boarded him with our trainer for board & train, and he's been great. But this time she didn't have space.

Several days after picking him up, he had his first episode of stones. He was able to drip a little bit, but clearly blocked. Our vet did xrays, cathed him, and emptied his bladder of a lot of sand-like stones and debris. Lots of bilirubin crystals.

His pH at the time was 7.5 to 8.

The lab report came back saying that the stones/crystals were non-struvite.

The only things that came up flagged on his urine was:
CK was 401 (range 10-200)
TCO2 (Bicarbonate) was borderline low
RBC - 30-50 (0-5 HPF)

Culture was negative, so no infection.

He was put on alopurinol for a short time, and Prescription Diet U/D.

In August, we again took an overnight trip and boarded him. Two days later, he was blocked. The vet palpated lower UT/penis and then was going to send us to an emergency clinic since it was Saturday and they weren't able to fit him in. When he reached the grass outside the door, he began to go. The palpation had dislodged something, and he had a good stream. I ran in and got a bowl to collect urine. He was put back on allopurinol.

So. This Sunday we were gone from 10:30 to 6, and he was in his crate. He usually gets to go very often since I'm home during the day, but I think he has gone that long before.

Monday morning he was completely blocked. Went through the whole cath/xray routine again.

pH this time was 8. Vet is sending crystals to lab in Minnesota for examination rather than the lab that id'd them as non-struvite.

I am concerned that he actually has struvite crystals, because of the high pH, and that he should NOT be on the Prescription Diet non-struvite U/D. Before that, we had him on Blue, and his skin allergies had cleared beautifully.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?
