Thanks for you posts- great to see you stop by on this board. I still say that the 'Auto Art' board is where the best knowledge is at, and the best people. There are the 'other' forums, but geez is there a lot of noise....
One of the other forums has a giant thread of 'What's up with the 70's theme in the biker world?' There's a bunch of noise in that thread for certain... but there is a bunch of good stuff as well. A guy going by 'PaulyAir' mentioned your work as well, Andy - and had great praise for you.
This is a quote taken directly from one of 'PaulyAir's' posts, on that thread - I thought it was really a great compliment, and wanted to share if you hadn't seen it:
'I remember walking into his shop looking to apprentice, but both of us knew I wasn't ready at the time due to his caliber. I regret ever walking out of that shop, and will to this day. Andy is a killer guy, and I am privleged to know him, but I kick my arse for missing the oppertunity of a lifetime. '
Andy- that interview/feature with you in the Street Chopper magazine was like finding gold for me. Just excellent.
Great work Andy - and thank you for sharing your knowledge on the mysterious 'epoxy clears' !!
I'm ready to try out the clear resin product that Doc has chimed in with.....
I'd love to find a really nice and tough clear for helmets and motorcycle tins and frames....
There is a thread on one of the forums, I think it is on www.kustomkulturelounge.com ... something about 'my first motorcycle/harley paint job'...
the guy talks about the original paint, and how hard it was to sand the clear/paint off..... I'm thinking maybe he had one of the 70's epoxy clear paint jobs!
Something that has been puzzling me..... Back in the 70's, with the motorcycle/chopper custom paint scene... several of the custom painters in the magazine advertisements and such proclaimed the use... more

The "epoxy" we used when we mixed in the flake was a thicker one than what we used for the Clear. We sanded the Flake/Epoxy mix with 180 grit dry paper. Thats about all that would cut that stuff. The ... more
Any clears referred to as "Epoxy" in the 70's in my neck of the woods. Buddy of mine swore by the polys back then. Maybe they are using the new Epoxy term to refer to the polys back then.... But then ... more
