I know what you mean Large;I used to try and do the best symmetrical design that I could and then I ran into Don Penttila in the late 60's who did these incredibly small and detailed asymmetrical designs along with a lot of bird like designs. Then I saw some work that Alex in
Wonderland did and that blew me away completely.
A friend of mine down in Florida has a saying:"NOTHING is TOO much if it is PROPERLY OVERDONE" Of course he was driving a T roadster with an 1100 hp BB Merlin in it.
Although basically conservative(I even talk people out of doing stripes occasionally)I have a tendency to over-do things on occasion.
What I love about this craft is the wide variety of styles that come out of people. And just when you think you've seen it all;something entirely different comes along.

I don't think your logic is so abstract. Sounds simple but, study, not just look at, but study the lines of the people that you want to emulate. I think as a consequence that will lead you to your... more

There is no rules on this, as far as I know . . How you stack color and what the contrast might be is an Individual choice, and the substrate color generally dictates the artist's choice . . This... more
