This contest is run too well by Ben Meyer and SCW to have such weird judging. In the future, they need to consider bringing in experts...not some old school judges who are from CSJA.

Yesterday was one of my only free Saturdays for the year and I wanted to check out some bands. I tried to be as unbiased as possible.

After sitting through all of prelims, here is what I thought about some of the results:

The scores in the highest division were WAY to inflated. There is absolutely no reason that Hickman and Zumwalt West should have scored so high. It seems as though the results were almost based off of 'how loud' and or 'big' is the band...as opposed to how well did the band achieve.

I thought that Lafayette was better than both Hickman and FZW, but I guess not. I can NOT believe they didn't make finals.

I really didn't enjoy the Rockbridge show. I also didn't think they played it well.

I thought FHN sounded much better yesterday then they have for awhile. As in, they were more in tune/tone with each other.

I also thought Camdentons show was a snoozer. I bet they don't do too well at larger contests later this year.

Zumwalt North did great! I was glad they took 1st. Nice job over there!

I thought that Zumwalt East's show got redundant. After hearing the soloist for 2 minutes...I didn't want to hear the show any more!

I thought there was a lot of phasing at Francis Howell and was surprised by their score. Congrats on best guard and percussion though!

I felt like Zumwalt South performed better than their results showed. I was expecting them to get 4th or 5th.

Parkway South did fine, but I thought their show was lack luster.
