It's an excellent example of thoughtful and diligent science, although, let's face it, the fact that it has taken this long to finally confirm the ephemeral presence of liquid water on Mars only speaks to how dry the red planet truly is. This is not about flowing rivers and streams. It's about minute amounts of H2O in rare locations that can only be liquid for short periods of time. Still it's a major discovery that will define the design of missions to Mars for years to come.
