"New International Version
For three hundred years Israel occupied Heshbon, Aroer, the surrounding settlements and all the towns along the Arnon. Why didn't you retake them during that time?"
-- I'm still trying to process this. The term Israel first appears in the Stele of Merneptah. The man, Israel, predates Moses and Exodus. If the beginning date is King Israel, then we could choose an earlier date, like like the time of Merneptah. In that case, my dates for Merneptah are: 1251-1228BC. Note: Wiki has 1213-1203BC.

This would seemingly be one way to reconcile the date in this passage... by choosing the starting point as Jacob who changed his name to Israel, 4 generations before Moses.
