"Oh, really?" was his reply as he tried not to look too relieved. He thought Holland was a little shorter than him, maybe - it was hard to tell accurately since he was still barefoot and that might throw off his perceptions enough to make a difference - but he definitely agreed that Holland still stood a better chance of boosting him than the other way around.

"Okay. Um, sorry for the mud," he added, reddening a little as he watched Holland get into position at the wall. So what if Holland had offered, and so what if they were both already kinda muddy anyways? Climbing around on anyone was still awkward in this situation. But it couldn't be avoided, so Russell swallowed his (minimal) pride and stepped up with one foot, trying to kick off with his other foot in time to Holland's boost.

Getting his fingers around the top of the wall was easy; he made it with room to spare. Russell pulled himself up the rest of the way and straddled it. "When you're ready," he called back, bending low to hang his arm down. Watching as Holland took a running leap, he locked his hand as firmly as he could and managed to make some use of his intro physics classes, using the momentum to hoist Holland up without falling off himself in the process.

"Neat to be up this high," he remarked, squinting over the shorter parts of the surrounding forest with interest. He could even make out the telltale glint (or six) of Quidditch hoops nearby. "We can just jump down... well, I mean, hang on and then jump. You know to like, relax and land on your feet and all that, right?" Jumping from this height didn't intimidate him; he'd taken more than a few falls off the pipes and rails of his favourite skate park in Sacramento, and this wall was taller than all of them, but he figured the basics of safe landings still applied.

Ready to offer what little advice he could if necessary, he waited for Holland to confirm that the descent wouldn't be a problem and then swung himself over, dangling from his fingertips for a moment before dropping. Russell landed with a softer squelch than he'd been expecting from the grass and rolled to the side to find himself again face-to-face with gooey mud. "What the heck is up with Rasnick and mud?" It came out as a mix between a whine and a grumble.

Russell’s spell worked exactly as he said it would, and Holland did their best to commit his wand movement and incantation to memory. He sort of mumbled it, so they would likely ask later. It could... more

“It’s just mud,” they said, not flinching as Russell stepped into their hand. Obviously they’d prefer not getting muddy, but it was a lost cause at this point in the obstacle course. The mud would... more
